About ODA Boarding School
To improve the current generation life and to pave the way for the future, education has exceptional role. For more than two decades Oromia Development Association has constructed schools and equipped them with basic educational facilities for community services. Providing quality education for our community is one of its major goals ODA has opened Boarding School, allocating huge budget and work towards raising future competent, committed, responsible, intellectual leaders and model professionals for the region and country at large.
Overview of ODA Boarding School
Boarding school is an institution where children live within premises while being given formal instruction. Students in the boarding school study and live during the school year with their fellow students. The concept of boarding school is an intensive form of education in which students live at school and visit their families only at summer. The history of boarding school goes back over hundreds of years. However, in the past, boarding schools were exclusively joined by monasteries and royal families. But now boarding schools are becoming popular even in developing countries and have been used to increase the educational opportunities of marginalized and disadvantaged students as well.
ODA Boarding school is opened at East Showa of Adama and Bishoftu town giving full package services besides providing with quality education.
Adama Boarding school started in Adama town in February 2014G.C/2006 E.C. Since then it has been developed to be a successful boarding school proving a first class education to students from across Oromia. Both schools have been working to assure quality of education since its establishment. The teachers are supporting the students even after school time without additional payment.

The specific objectives of ODA Boarding School are:
- To create center of research and excellence in area of science and technology
- To give opportunity to academically high achiever students to exercise their potential in a very comfortable boarding school
- To generate sense of competition and commitment among families and student to join the boarding school after completion of primary education
- Enable to create attraction with the surrounding high school there by share experience and serve as resources center.
Why ODA Boarding School
It is quite clear that the government of Ethiopia has made commendable progress in the provision of education to its citizens in line with its education sector development program, i.e program for accelerated and sustained development for eradication of poverty and the Growth and Transformation Plan.
Similarly, the regional government of Oromia has mobilized all major development actors in the efforts of developing its human resources by expanding access to primary, secondary, TVET and regional college level education within its mandate.
Nevertheless, the problems associated with education quality, unless timely addressed may impede production of capable human capitals that can lead the region and the country at large to unprecedented advancement and ensure dignified live for the broader citizen. It is towards this contribution that Oromia Development Association (ODA) envisioned to promote special Boarding Schools for bright and best achieving students, with special focus and preferential treatment for female, physically disabled and underserved area students.
The boarding school is aimed to enroll high academic achiever students from different corners across the region based on the merit of their academic competence. Thus, ODA believes to establish Boarding school a trend that helps to a mass well equipped and cultured professionals as well as citizens who can adequately stand against the imminent life challenges. According to ODA best academic achievers can grasp new technologies, scientific knowledge and skills easily and assists link the world with Oromia in particular and the nation in general. This paves the way to have future capable professionals such as teachers, leaders, scientist, engineers, doctors, etc.
The curriculum implementation:
In ODA Boarding School the curriculum implemented by the Ministry of education absolutely utilized in the school. This means, the student’s text books, syllabus, teacher’s guide manuals and worksheet besides well-furnished and equipped laboratory equipment and chemical, library with relevant reference books, computers used for the success of the learners and institution. The measurement and evaluation system is also based on the continuous assessment to see the track of each student over a given period. Finally, the students sit for both General Secondary School Certificate Examination and Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination and join higher education institution within the country or abroad.
Teaching and Learning Process
The process of delivering the lesson and overall teaching learning activity goes with special attention and due focus to cope with their academic inquiries and social interests. Therefore, our teachers are always in stand by and alert mode to maintain the main objective of the boarding school. All lessons are wired with laboratory practices and practical activity where students take part to stabilize what they have learnt in theory.
Creativity and Club
Beside their academic performance, ODA students are encourage to develop their individual creative talents through different clubs. These include environmental protection, Oromo cultural and historical club promotion, Oromo cultural artifact development and science and Technology clubs.
Some of the students being part of science and Technology club, found Mathematical and Physics formula and got recognition and certificate from Adama Science and Technology Institute.
Student Services
Within our safe and conductive environment we aim to provide a warm family atmosphere where students from different zones of the region enjoy living and working together. The school has committed caretakers, cafeteria workers and janitors who are accountable for diversified food provision and their environment neatness.
It has also a clinic in the compound with adequate facilities, medicine and hence offering a 24 hours health services for the students and school community. For any serious case beyond the clinic, ODA has made a contractual agreement with a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Awards
ODA gives an award for students who scored highest result in 12th grade National Exam every year. Oromia Education Bureau has recognized the efforts made by ODA by presenting an award to ODA and our students. Ethiopian prime minister has also awarded ODA students who scored highest result in 12th grade in national exam in 2023 and gave scholarship to 21 of our students..
Selection of eligible Students:
The recruitment for boarding school admission requires serious attention by respective educational officials. Thus, appropriate student will be selected based on
- Grade 8 result who scored the highest average point in Regional Examination is selected
- Grade 7&8 track record
- Gender balance will be considered (different grading for both sex )
- Special consideration have been taken into account for the underserved pastoral community,
- Boarding school entrance examination is given for the short listed students. Successful candidate admit to ODA Special Boarding School from different zones and town administration of Oromia National Regional State.
General Provisions on Admissions to the Boarding School
- Admissions/eligibility to the Boarding School of grade nine (9) shall be based on completion of grade eight and obtaining highest result in grade 8 regional examination
- High achiever students from each zone equal to the maximum number of the year’s enrolment will sit for the entrance examination
- Students Selection criteria is based on:
- Grade 8 national examination result comprising 15%, and grade 7 and 8 transcript 5% (total 20%)
- Entrance exam 80% (Afaan Oromo, English, math, biology, physics and chemistry) subjects
- A newly admitted grade 9 student should not exceed the age of 15
- Physical disability and harsh area will be considered (3 points will be added)
- Disciplinary issues will be considered
