Background

ODA-Eliminate TB project with financial and technical support from USAID/MSH contributes to community TB care activities in Oromia reginal state in selected zones that primarily focusing on TB prevention and control through engaging the community at grass root level.

Among estimated TB cases one fourth are missing every year in the community and will not achieve the End TB goals by 2035 unless the decline in incidence is accelerated. Reasons for the missed cases include; limited diagnostics services; low coverage of services for LTBI, inadequate community involvement and others. ODA-ETB project will build on commitment and accelerate prevention and control efforts by improving primary health care activities among other interventions. The project also offers capacity-building and sustainability strategy through increased engagement of the community and all sectors.  

Therefore, the project is designed to contribute to eliminate TB effort by increasing the quality, access, utilization, and sustainability of TB services in the two selected zones through building the capacity of health care providers and the community service providers as well as the private sector to strengthen patient-centered services. Accordingly, Twenty-two Woredas and two towns in two project implementing zones (Arsi and South West Shoa) with an overall population of 2,831,748 were addressed by the organization.

Project Goal

• To reduce TB incidence by 90% and mortality by 95% to achieve End TB strategy milestones and targets by increasing the quality, access, utilization, and sustainability of TB services in Oromia.

Specific Objectives

To improve TB case detection from 60% to 80% through early identification of presumptive TB cases from the baseline by the years 2020-2025

• To improve Key affected population intervention by 65% from the baseline in targeted districts by the years 2020-2025
• To increase Community TB prevention and care activities by 90% from the baseline by the years 2020-2025
