FUTUREs Project “My Forest, My Livelihood, My Family”

ODA Future project is a project intended to increase access to quality and equitable SRH/FP. This project is intended to increase access to quality and equitable SRH/FP services and information and improved livelihood opportunities for women and young people through sustainable multi-sectorial partnership for integrated programing and collective action developed and strengthened.

Family planning and fertility are considered as issues of women and Men are neither consulted nor actively participate in FP. Several social norms negatively affect young unmarried girls on their reproductive health. Without addressing these social norms, it could be difficult to make a positive change to their sexual and reproductive health. Provision of youth-friendly services (YFS) at the health centers was very limited in spite of the large magnitude of adolescents and youth RH problem.

Intervention area:

  • Oromia, I/A/Bor Zone – Dorani woreda,   B/ Bedele Zone- Chora Woreda

Donor: Care Ethiopia/Packard Foundation

Intervention kebeles: 18 kebeles for SRH/FP (10 in Chora & 8 in Dorani Woreda)

Target population:

  • Youth and adolescents aged between 15-29
  • Women and girls
  • Men and boys

Goal: To achievesustainable biodiversity and improved reproductive health and livelihood of women and young people in Yayo biosphere reserve.

Objectives/Outcomes:

  • Improved RH access for women and young people
  • Improved livelihood opportunities for women and young people
  • Sustainable multi-sectorial partnership for integrated programing and collective action developed and strengthened

Project Approaches:

  • Empowerment of youth and women through village saving and loan association and youth saving and Loan association (VSLA and YSLA)
  • Provide regular mentoring for VSLA/YSLA groups.
  • Application of SAA and CSC tools and approach
  • Strengthen coordination, collaboration and communication with stakeholders
